Facebook is meant for facilitating online interactions with your friends. You can expand your social network by making new friends and reviving friendship with old acquaintances. However, sometimes, Facebook blocks a particular user from sending friend requests to other users. Though such blocks are temporary, they cause alarm in the mind of the user. Moreover, Facebook does not specify the exact duration of such “temporary” block, though it states that such block may last from a few hours to a few days. Further the basic question is: why does Facebook block a particular user from sending friend requests to others?
There can be several reasons behind Facebook blocking you from sending friend requests. It may be due to the fact that your friend requests have gone unanswered or that your friend requests have been marked unwelcome. Facebook does not specify as to what is the minimum number (or minimum percentage) of friend requests going unanswered or getting marked unwelcome, after which it blocks a user from sending new friend requests. Likewise, it is possible that you might have sent too many friend requests. However, one can observe some basic precautions in this regard to avoid getting blocked.
For example, don’t send friend requests to a completely unknown person on Facebook. Try to send friend requests mainly to only those persons who are friends of your existing friends on Facebook, and who have at least heard of you. Such names are shown in the recommendations of “find friends” shown by the Facebook itself. There are chances are such persons may not decline your friend request.
Moreover, if you’re sending friend request to someone with whom you’re not in touch for several years, there is a possibility that such person might have forgotten you. So, it is advisable to briefly introduce you by sending a message narrating your old acquaintance.
Also try to use a real picture of yourself as your Facebook profile picture so that people could recognize you. If you’ve an alternate name, such as your nickname or maiden name, you should add that too to your account. Also provide basic details about you in your profile, including your present and past details.
If you’ve met a person earlier but you’re not sure whether he will remember you, try to first send a message to re-introduce yourself to him.
Keep in mind that celebrities, public figures, artiest, film starts, etc., may not accept your friend requests if you don’t know them personally. It is advisable to send a subscription request to such persons instead of sending a friend request. The Subscribe button is shown next to the names of people who allow subscribers. Usually, such famous people have the subscription option.
Therefore, it is advisable to send friend requests to only those people you know in your real life, such as your real friends, family members, co-workers, colleagues, or classmates. If your intention is to make new friends on Facebook, try sending request to friends of your friends, or try connecting with Facebook Pages and groups in which you’re are interested, or try signing up to play social games.
Remember that if you’ve been blocked from sending friend requests on Facebook, you may also be temporarily blocked from sending messages to people with whom you’re not friends. After some hours or some days, this temporary block on sending friend requests may automatically get removed. However, once your account has been blocked from sending friend requests, avoid sending friend requests to people you don’t know personally after this block is removed on a later date.
