Google has an official app for Android phones, called “YouTube Remote” that converts your Android phone into a remote control for watching YouTube videos on any computer or large screen monitors or enabled televisions. This app is absolutely free and can be easily setup for remotely controlling YouTube. So, you can relax on a sofa at a distance watching and remotely controlling (with Android phone) the YouTube videos on a computer or other enabled devices such as TV.
There are three stages for preparing the YouTube Remote app to be used as a remote control with YouTube, as shown below:
(1) Install and prepare the YouTube Remote app on your Android phone:
To use this app, first download it from Android Market. When you install and run this free app on your Android phone for the first time, it will ask you to associate your free Google Account with this app. If you don’t already have a Google Account, you can create it freely. Once you associate your Google Account with YouTube Remote app, it will then ask you to enter a Pairing Code for YouTube. Now, you’ll have to obtain your free Pairing Code from YouTube.
(2) Obtaining Pairing Code from YouTube for the Android app:
For this purpose, first visit http://www.youtube.com/leanback website on your computer or enabled TV. Remember the above YouTube leanback site is meant for large TV screen or large monitors; however, you can also use it on your regular computer or laptop. When you visit this site, click on “My YouTube” link on the left sidebar. It may ask you to sign in to your YouTube account (using your free Google Account). Once you do that, depending on whether you’re visiting this site for the first time, it may present the following screen:
So, this screen asks you to first pair this device (i.e., the TV screen, or your regular computer monitor) with your YouTube Account. For this purpose, you’re asked to visit http://www.google.com/device website and then enter the code provided in the above screen on that Google site. Once you do that, you’ll get a success message and the above http://www.youtube.com/leanback site will now get activated for your device. Now, again click on “My YouTube” link on the left sidebar. Then click in the empty space on the right-side of “Sign Out” button. You’ll get a big Pair button that says: “Pair your screen with a mobile device”. Click on this Pair button, and you’ll get the following screen telling you about the Pairing Code:
Note down this Pairing Code for use in your Android phone.
(3) Entering the Pairing Code in YouTube Remote app in your Android phone:
Now, enter this Pairing Code (as obtained from the second step, above) into the YouTube Remote app in your Android phone, and then tap “Add Screen” button.
That’s it! Your Android phone is now ready to be used as a remote control with YouTube http://www.youtube.com/leanback website.
You’ll now get a regular video interface, from which you can select and play videos:
You can now use your Android phone as a remote control to control the video play on your computer monitor or enabled TV screen:
So, just relax and control the YouTube videos remotely with your Android phone using this awesome YouTube Remote app.
